How do the 10 best luxury cruise lines compare in 2027?
Celebrity and Oceania have the lowest entry fares; Regent, Ponant, Scenic and Tauck include the most. Fares below are published 2027 lead-in prices, per person, double occupancy, mostly for 7-night Mediterranean sailings, as of October 2026. They change often, so use them as a starting point.
Cruise line | Tier | 2027 fares from (per person) | Guests per ship |
Celebrity Cruises | Premium | From $1,900 (Mediterranean) | Large resort ships |
Oceania Cruises | Upper premium | From $3,500 (7 nights) | Mid-size |
Viking | Upper premium | From $4,200 (7 nights) | 930 |
Crystal | Luxury | From $4,800 (7 nights, Alaska) | Mid-size |
Seabourn | Luxury | From $4,500 (7 nights) | 600 on Seabourn Ovation |
Silversea | Luxury | From $3,900 (7 nights) | 728 on Silver Nova |
Regent Seven Seas | Luxury | From $6,400 (7 nights) | Mid-size |
Ponant | Luxury | From $5,900 (5 nights) | 32 on Le Ponant |
Scenic | Luxury | Often $1,500+ per person per day | 228 on Scenic Eclipse |
Tauck | Luxury | From $12,800 (11-night cruise and land) | Small ships |
Which luxury cruise line is best for first-time luxury cruisers?
Viking or Oceania. Both are adults-only, both include specialty dining, and both cost far less than the all-suite lines. Viking also includes a shore excursion in every port, so first-timers aren't left planning every day.
If you'd rather pay once and never sign a bar tab, start with Regent Seven Seas. Its fares include unlimited shore excursions, drinks and prepaid gratuities.
What's the difference between premium, upper-premium and luxury cruise lines?
Tier | Lines | What you typically get |
Premium | Celebrity | Big resort ships, many restaurants and shows, drinks and Wi-Fi in the fare |
Upper premium | Viking, Oceania | Mid-size ships, refined dining, some inclusions, adults-only |
Luxury | Seabourn, Silversea, Crystal | All-suite or near all-suite, drinks and most tips included, high crew-to-guest ratio |
Luxury small ship and yacht | Ponant, Scenic, Tauck, Regent | Under 250 guests, smaller ports, the most inclusive fares |
The higher the tier, the less you pay on board. Compare the total trip cost, not the fare.

Is a small cruise ship better than a big one?
For most of my clients, yes. Small ships dock in ports big ships can't reach, such as Portofino or a tiny Greek island. Boarding takes minutes, and the crew learns your name.
Big ships still win on variety. Celebrity has more restaurants, shows and activities than any small ship. If you are traveling with teenagers or want nightlife, a big ship may suit you better.
Which luxury cruise line has the best food and suites?
Food: Oceania is the line food lovers ask for by name, with multiple specialty restaurants at no extra charge. Regent and Seabourn are close behind.
Suites: Silversea, Seabourn and Regent are all-suite, and Silversea assigns a butler to every suite. Ponant's Le Ponant is a 32-guest sailing yacht, so every guest gets near-private service.
Which cruise line is best for couples, solo travelers and multigenerational families?
Traveler | Best choice | Why |
Couples and anniversaries | Silversea, Seabourn or Ponant | All-suite comfort, intimate ships, romantic ports |
Adults who want no children on board | Viking or Oceania | Both are adults-only, 18 and older |
Solo travelers | Ask about solo fares | Some lines offer reduced single supplements on select dates |
Multigenerational families | Tauck, Regent or Celebrity | Tauck Bridges family departures, Regent youth programs on select sailings, Celebrity's big-ship activities |
What are the honest pros and cons of each luxury cruise line?
Is Viking Ocean worth it?
Yes, for culture-focused travelers. Viking's ocean ships carry 930 guests and include an excursion in every port, Wi-Fi, specialty dining, and wine and beer with meals.
Pros: Strong value, no kids, no casinos, port-intensive itineraries
Cons: Tips and cocktails are extra, the ships look alike

Is Oceania Cruises a luxury line?
Oceania sits just below the all-suite lines, and it has the best food in this price range. Since January 7, 2026, all new bookings are adults-only, 18 and older.
Pros: Exceptional restaurants at no extra charge, low entry fares, now adults-only
Cons: Fewer inclusions than Regent or Seabourn, alcohol depends on fare

Is Silversea worth the price?
Yes, if you value space and service. Every suite has a butler, and fares include champagne, spirits, in-suite bar and Wi-Fi. Silver Nova carries 728 guests.
Pros: Butler for every suite, strong expedition fleet, refined service
Cons: Higher fares, excursions are extra on classic voyages

What makes Seabourn different?
Seabourn's ships carry up to 600 guests, and the fare includes premium spirits, fine wines, Wi-Fi and gratuities. It also hosts signature events such as Caviar in the Surf.
Pros: Relaxed luxury, included drinks and tips, warm social atmosphere
Cons: Excursions extra, larger ships feel busier at peak hours
Is Regent Seven Seas really all-inclusive?
Yes. Regent includes unlimited shore excursions, all specialty restaurants, unlimited drinks, prepaid gratuities, Wi-Fi and a daily minibar.
Pros: The most inclusive fare at sea, spacious suites, few surprise charges
Cons: Highest headline fares, so it can look expensive until you compare totals
Who is Ponant best for?
Travelers who want a private-yacht feel. Le Ponant carries just 32 guests, with an open bar, gratuities, Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service included. Its 2027 Italian itineraries include Portofino, Amalfi and the Aeolian Islands.
Pros: Very intimate, French style, reaches tiny ports
Cons: Excursions extra, limited onboard amenities on the smallest yachts
Is Scenic Eclipse worth it?
Yes, for adventurous travelers with a large budget. The 228-guest Scenic Eclipse is all-inclusive, with excursions, drinks and tips included. It also carries two helicopters and a submarine.
Pros: Unique experiences, truly all-inclusive, polar-capable
Cons: Among the highest daily rates, helicopter and submarine trips cost extra
What should I know about Crystal Cruises?
Crystal is classic big-ship luxury, now owned by the Abercrombie & Kent group. Every suite and room has butler service, and Crystal Serenity runs a 140-night world cruise in 2027.
Pros: Long voyages, refined entertainment, Umi Uma, a Nobu restaurant on board
Cons: Larger than the yacht lines, confirm what each fare includes
Why choose Tauck for an ocean cruise?
Because Tauck plans everything. Its small-ship voyages include private Tauck excursions, all gratuities, drinks including premium spirits, and exclusive events, such as a private dinner at a Roman palazzo.
Pros: Fully guided, very few extra costs, exclusive access
Cons: High fares, limited departures that sell out early
Is Celebrity a luxury cruise line?
No, Celebrity is premium, but it is a strong option for travelers who want a big ship. Its Always Included fares cover drinks, Wi-Fi and tips.
Pros: Lowest entry price, many restaurants and activities, family-friendly
Cons: Large ships, more crowds in port, excursions extra

How do I choose the right luxury cruise line for my travel style?
Answer these four questions, in order:
What is your total budget per person, including tips, drinks and excursions? $4,500 - $7,500 for a week points to Oceania or Viking. $6,000 - $10,000 opens Seabourn, Silversea and Regent.
Do you want to pay once and stop thinking about money? If yes, choose Regent, Scenic or Tauck.
How many other guests do you want on board? Under 250 points to Ponant, Scenic or Tauck. Around 600 to 900 points to Seabourn, Silversea, Viking or Oceania.
Do you want children on board? If not, Viking and Oceania are both adults-only. Many of the luxury lines are adult-oriented rather than family-focused. Most don't have many children as there are no youth programs or dedicated children's facilities.
Compare the total cost, not the fare
A $6,000 Viking week and an $8,400 Regent week are closer than they look once you add tips, cocktails and excursions to the Viking fare. Ship size, suite location and sailing month change the trip too. That is where an advisor helps, and you don't pay extra for it.
Cruise lines pay advisors directly, and through our Avoya Travel partnership our clients have saved $1,000 to $3,500 per couple in rates and onboard credits.
