The Short Answer: Silversea or Seabourn?

Choose Silversea if you want a butler in every suite, a shore-excursion credit built into your fare, the widest destination list in ultra-luxury, and the deepest expedition fleet (Antarctica fly-cruises, a Galápagos-only ship). Choose Seabourn if you want a smaller, more social yacht-style ship, every restaurant included with no surcharges, and polar expeditions with a submarine on board.

Both lines include all drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi and specialty dining. The real difference in 2026 is how each handles shore excursions, suite service and ship size, and both lines changed enough since 2024 that most comparisons online are now out of date.

Written by Danny Stahl, certified travel advisor and founder of Danny's Adventures (Raleigh, NC). Certified across 18 cruise and land brands including Silversea and Seabourn, former cruise-line insider at AmaWaterways. I don't earn more by steering you to one line over the other, and booking through me costs the same as booking direct.

What changed in 2025–2026 that most blogs still get wrong

  • Silversea retired Door-to-Door, Port-to-Port and Essential fares on September 11, 2025. The new fares are All-Inclusive Plus, All-Inclusive and Last-Minute. Flights and home transfers are no longer bundled.

  • Seabourn's Thomas Keller partnership ended in spring 2024. The Grill by Thomas Keller was replaced by Solis, a Mediterranean restaurant. Any comparison still praising "The Grill" is stale

  • Seabourn Sojourn left the fleet in 2026 (sold to Mitsui Ocean Cruises; relaunching as Mitsui Ocean Sakura). Seabourn now sails five ships.

  • Seabourn Quest finished the largest refit in Seabourn history in June 2026 — new mattresses and carpets in every suite, redesigned Colonnade, Seabourn Square and spa.

  • Silver Spirit gained S.A.L.T. (Silversea's destination-cuisine program) in its 2026 refit.

Space and crew: the numbers behind "uncrowded"

Silver Nova and Silver Ray offer about 75 gross tons per guest with 544 crew for 728 guests. Seabourn Encore and Ovation run about 67 gross tons per guest (40,350 GT ÷ 600). Venture and Pursuit run about 87 (≈23,000 GT ÷ 264) — the most space per guest of any ship in this comparison.

Danny's take: on Silversea, the ship matters more than the brand. A Silver Shadow (388 guests, 2000) and a Silver Ray (728 guests, 2024) are different vacations. On Seabourn, the ocean ships feel nearly identical, so pick by itinerary.

What's Included: Silversea vs Seabourn Fares in 2026

Onboard, the two lines are nearly identical in what they include; the gap is shore excursions, which Silversea bundles only on its top fare and Seabourn doesn't bundle on ocean voyages at all.

Seabourn's inclusions

Seabourn keeps one simple model: suite, all meals and 24-hour in-suite dining, every restaurant, fine wines and premium spirits, the Surf Wi-Fi package, gratuities, and port fees and taxes. Ocean shore excursions, including the small-group Ventures by Seabourn are purchased separately. Complimentary signature events such as Caviar in the Surf, Marina Day water sports and the private Evening at Ephesus concert are part of the fare where scheduled.

Danny's take: if you'd book two or more tours in most ports, Silversea's All-Inclusive Plus usually closes much of the price gap. If you prefer to explore on your own, Seabourn's simpler fare often wins.

Suites and Butler Service

Silversea is the only one of the two that puts a butler in every suite, including the entry-level Classic Veranda; Seabourn gives every suite a personal stewardess and reserves butler-style service for its top categories.

Danny's take: a butler sounds like a luxury you won't use until you have one. On Silversea, the butler handles unpacking, dinner reservations, laundry pick-up and in-suite dining — at the entry price. To get comparable personal service on Seabourn, you typically book up into Penthouse or above.

Deck placement tip (both lines): midship on a lower suite deck for the smoothest ride; aft for larger terraces; avoid suites directly below the pool deck or above the theater if you sleep light.

Dining: Silversea vs Seabourn

Silversea offers more venues and the stronger destination-food story through S.A.L.T.; Seabourn offers fewer venues but includes every one of them, with no reservations fees and no surcharges.

Silversea earned 16 Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence in 2026 across La Dame and S.A.L.T. Kitchen, the most in its history. In July 2026 it launched S.A.L.T. Culinary Voyages on Silver Dawn and Silver Spirit, built around the autumn harvest in Portugal, Spain, France and the UK.

Danny's take: foodies who want to taste a place, markets, local producers, cooking labs, lean Silversea. Travelers who hate surcharges and want to wander into any restaurant any night lean Seabourn. Venue count varies by ship: Nova-class ships carry eight; Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper carry fewer.

Shore Excursions and Expeditions

On ocean voyages, Silversea's All-Inclusive Plus credit beats Seabourn's pay-as-you-go model; on expeditions, Silversea includes more, but only Seabourn takes you underwater in a submarine.

Danny's take: for a first Antarctica trip with someone nervous about seasickness, Silversea's fly-cruise is the single strongest argument in this comparison. For a guest who wants the "wow" photo nobody else at the dinner party has, Seabourn's submarine dive is it, book it the day you board, because seats are limited.

Atmosphere, Service and Who Sails

Silversea feels like a polished Italian boutique hotel; Seabourn feels like a private yacht where the crew learns your name by day two.

Danny's take: couples who want to meet other couples over cocktails tend to love Seabourn. Couples who want privacy, space and a butler fixing their martini in the suite tend to love Silversea.

Itineraries and Destinations, 2026–2028

Silversea's 2027–28 collection — 414 voyages across 600+ destinations in 100+ countries, dwarfs Seabourn's schedule, but Seabourn concentrates its five ships on boutique ports in fewer regions.

How to read it: if the excursion credit on your voyage is worth more than the fare difference between All-Inclusive Plus and All-Inclusive, Plus is the better buy and on long Mediterranean voyages the credit can run into the thousands per suite. Against Seabourn, add what you'd actually spend on tours in each port before comparing.

Where my clients save: through Avoya, you don't pay more than booking direct you get more. Depending on the sailing, that can mean onboard credit or added amenities on top of the line's own promotions. Ask me for a side-by-side quote.

10 Insider Tips Other Silversea vs Seabourn Comparisons Miss

  1. Check the fare date on any quote. A Silversea quote that mentions Door-to-Door or Port-to-Port is either an old booking or old information.

  2. Price All-Inclusive Plus against All-Inclusive every time. The excursion credit can outweigh a suite-category upgrade.

  3. Spend the Silversea credit early. It expires at the end of the voyage and can't be refunded.

  4. Book Seabourn's submarine and kayak slots on day one. Capacity is six guests per sub dive; not everyone gets one every sailing.

  5. Ask which Silversea ship, not just which itinerary. Nova class, Muse class and Millennium class are three different experiences.

  6. Seabourn Quest is now the freshest Odyssey-class interior anywhere after its June 2026 refit a quiet value pick for the Mediterranean.

  7. Use your status. Royal Caribbean Group's status match lets Crown & Anchor and Captain's Club members carry tier status into Silversea's Venetian Society.

  8. Watch Seabourn's promotions. Events like "Yours to Explore" have offered two-category veranda suite upgrades plus shipboard credit on 500+ sailings.

  9. Don't over-book tours on expedition voyages. Both lines include landings and Zodiac outings; the paid add-ons are the rare extras.

What My Clients Say

"My best friend and I were excited to choose a luxury liner for our European cruise, but we found the numerous options overwhelming! Thankfully, Danny, who is certified on most luxury lines, guided us beautifully in narrowing it down to two fantastic choices. Ultimately, we went with Silversea because we loved their S.A.L.T. destination-cuisine program and the added luxury of having a butler in every suite. Plus, Danny secured a remarkable $1,000 onboard credit for us that we wouldn't have found on our own. I wholeheartedly recommend Danny to help you explore your options and discover the perfect cruise that will make your adventure truly unforgettable!"— Candice N., Portland, Oregon
