I'm Danny Stahl at Danny's Adventures, and I sell all three of these companies every week. I know their Tour Directors, their hotel standards, and the specific moments on each itinerary that turn skeptics into believers. My job is to match you, your travel style, your fitness level, your budget to the right company and the right trip. Let's do that now.

The Three Companies: Three Completely Different Philosophies

Before we go destination by destination, you need to understand the fundamental difference between these three operators. Choosing the wrong one for your travel style is far more consequential than the price difference.

Tauck — Luxury Escorted Touring (95+ Years)

Tauck is the premium standard in escorted touring. Everything is all-inclusive, gratuities, all transfers, a full premium open bar, and every excursion. Group size is capped at 24–28 guests maximum.

The defining feature: private access to venues no other operator can enter at any price. Vatican after-hours. Private Habsburg palace dinners. Exclusive site openings built over 95 years of institutional relationships. If you want the absolute best version of an escorted tour and price is not your primary concern, Tauck is the answer.

  • All-inclusive: gratuities, transfers, open bar, all excursions

  • Group size: 24–28 guests max

  • Hotel standard: Iconic 4.5–5-star properties

  • Starting from: $4,990–$12,000+ per person

Globus — Premium Escorted Touring (90+ Years)

Globus is the world's most established escorted tour brand, the right choice for travelers who want an excellent, full-service European tour without the Tauck price tag. 4-star hotels, professional Tour Directors, most major sightseeing included, and their signature Make Travel Matter® community experiences put Globus meaningfully above budget competitors.

  • Group size: Up to 40–44 guests

  • Hotel standard: 4-star

  • Gratuities: Not included ($150 per person extra)

  • Starting from: $1,799–$5,500+ per person

Backroads — Active & Physical Touring

Backroads is a completely different category. You are not on a coach you are on a bike, a hiking trail, or kayaking a harbor, experiencing the destination with your body. Two expert Trip Leaders accompany every departure. Groups max out at 16–20 guests. All meals are at carefully chosen local restaurants. E-bikes are available.

If you want to experience Europe through a window, Globus or Tauck is your answer. If you want to experience Europe with your body, Backroads was built specifically for you.

  • Group size: 16–20 guests max

  • Style: Biking, hiking, multi-sport and physically active

  • Hotel standard: Boutique inns and lodges

  • Starting from: ~$3,498–$6,500+ per person

Italy: Rome, Florence, Venice, Tuscany

Italy is the most-requested European land tour destination and all three companies do it exceptionally well. The difference comes down to how exclusive you want the access and whether you want to see Tuscany through a coach window or from the saddle of a bike.

Tauck in Italy

Tauck's Italy programs offer what no competitor can replicate: private after-hours entry to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel just your group of 24 in complete silence. Private olive oil estate visits in Tuscany. A pasta-making experience with a Florentine family in their home kitchen. Hotels include the St. Regis Rome and properties steps from the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.

Globus in Italy

Globus delivers an outstanding Italy tour at a far more accessible price. All the major highlights Rome, Pompeii, Amalfi, Florence, Venice, with First Class 4-star hotels, skip-the-line access, and Make Travel Matter® experiences. The right choice for first-timers who want Italy done properly without the Tauck premium.

Backroads in Italy

Backroads doesn't try to cover all of Italy, it goes deep into one region with your body fully engaged. The Tuscany Biking trip covers Chianti, Siena, San Gimignano, and Val d'Orcia on bikes, with e-bikes available for all fitness levels. Private estate wine tastings from cellars that open only for Backroads groups. Boutique hilltop inns throughout.

France: Paris, Normandy, Loire Valley, Provence

France rewards travelers who go deeper than Paris. All three operators understand this but they approach French immersion in completely different ways.

Tauck in France

Tauck's France programs include Paris, Versailles, Normandy, the Loire Valley châteaux, Provence, and the Côte d'Azur, each with an exclusive Tauck touch:

  • A private candlelit evening in a Loire Valley château not open to general tours

  • A Normandy D-Day visit with a WWII historian who has guided Tauck exclusively for two decades

  • An intimate dinner in the wine cave of a Château Neuf-du-Pape domaine

These experiences are built on decades of relationships. They are not available independently.

Globus in France

Globus France tours deliver the essential French experience Paris, Louvre, Versailles, Normandy D-Day beaches, Mont-Saint-Michel, and Provence in a fully guided, First Class itinerary. Make Travel Matter® experiences include a visit with a local lavender producer in Provence. The right choice for first-time France visitors who want comprehensive coverage at an accessible price.

Backroads in France

Backroads focuses on Provence and the Loire Valley and goes far deeper than any coach tour can. Cycling through lavender fields in full July bloom. Standing reservations at Michelin-recognized restaurants. Private wine estate visits in Château Neuf-du-Pape. Villages of the Luberon that most tourists never find. If you've ever dreamed of living a year in Provence rather than visiting it this is the trip.

Germany: Bavaria, Berlin, Christmas Markets

Germany is one of the most versatile European tour destinations medieval castles, world-class beer culture, deep WWII history, and legendary Christmas markets. The right company depends largely on your primary interest.

Tauck in Germany

Tauck's Germany programs cover Berlin, Bavaria, Neuschwanstein, the Romantic Road, and the Rhine Valley with private access at every stop. For December departures, Tauck's group of 24 enters Nuremberg's Christkindlesmarkt before the public gates open, followed by a private evening at the Nuremberg Kaiserburg (Imperial Castle) a Tauck-only experience.

Globus in Germany

Globus delivers outstanding Germany value, Munich, the Bavarian Alps, Neuschwanstein, Rothenburg, the Romantic Road, Rhine Valley, and Berlin. Make Travel Matter® experiences include a visit with a Bavarian craftsman whose family has carved traditional wood figures for five generations. Their Christmas market departures are among the most popular tours Globus offers globally.

Backroads in Germany

Backroads focuses on Bavaria and the Black Forest ideal cycling terrain with excellent infrastructure, beer garden lunches, lakeside inn accommodations, and routes past fairytale castles that coach tours pass by in minutes.

Ireland & Scotland: Dublin, Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, Edinburgh

Ireland and Scotland are uniquely emotional destinations especially for anyone with Celtic ancestry. Clients arrive as visitors and leave feeling like they've come home. The difference between operators here is particularly striking.

Tauck in Ireland & Scotland

Tauck's program includes private access to country estates, ancient ruins, and castles not open to general tours:

  • A private evening at an 11th-century working Irish estate  with the family who has owned it for 400 years

  • Invitation-only traditional Irish music sessions in a village pub Tauck groups only

  • These are experiences that ancestry-focused travelers describe as the most emotionally powerful of their lives

Globus in Ireland & Scotland

Globus Ireland and Scotland tours are among the brand's most beloved programs. Dublin, Galway, the Ring of Kerry, Killarney, the Cliffs of Moher, Edinburgh, and Loch Lomond, all covered with expert local guides and First Class hotels. Make Travel Matter® experiences include a visit with a local Irish sheep farmer whose family has worked the same land for twelve generations. One of Globus' most repeat-booked itineraries.

Backroads in Ireland & Scotland

Backroads focuses on the countryside coaches can't reach the quiet roads of County Clare above the Cliffs of Moher, the limestone paths of the Burren, the single-track roads of the Scottish Highlands. The physical experience of cycling past a Connemara lake with no other travelers in sight is something no coach tour can replicate.

What I Suggest

Tauck opens the doors that no one else can open. Globus gives you the full sweep of what a destination offers. Backroads puts you inside the landscape physically. All three are extraordinary, and the one that's right for you depends entirely on who you are as a traveler.

Choose Tauck if: The private access and all-inclusive luxury are worth the premium. You're celebrating a milestone. You want the absolute best version of an escorted tour.

Choose Globus if: You want a comprehensive, professionally guided first Europe experience at a fair price. You want the highlights covered properly without the Tauck investment.

Choose Backroads if: You want to experience Europe with your body, on a bike or a trail, not through a coach window. Active travel is the point, not just a bonus.

Why Book Through Me

Tauck, Globus, and Backroads all pay advisor commissions from their own revenue, never from a markup on your fare. You pay exactly the same price booking through me as booking direct. Here is what changes:

  • The right match: The most expensive mistake in escorted touring is booking the wrong company for your travel style. I ask five questions and prevent that outcome. A booking website cannot do this.

  • Promotions: I have access to current early-booking discounts and group rates that don't appear on public websites. I've helped clients save $400–$800 per couple on tours they were about to book direct.

  • Research shortcut: The average traveler spends 25+ hours comparing European land tour options. One 15-minute conversation with me replaces all of it for free.

  • Advocacy: Flight delays, wrong room assignments, dietary needs not on the manifest when something needs to move, I know who to call and what to say.

Same price. Correct match. Better information. A real person if something goes wrong.

Tauck's 24–28 guest maximum means popular Italy, Ireland, and safari programs sell out 9–15 months in advance. Backroads' 16–20 guest cap creates the same dynamic for peak-season Tuscany and Provence. The conversation worth having is the one you have today.

Oceania Italy
I always suggest taking the island of Capri excursion when visiting the Gulf of Naples. Capri is a stunning, cliff-lined coastline with historic Roman ruins.
When in Capri you must visit the Blue Grotto, a stunning sea cave used by Emperor Tiberius as a private marine temple and swimming pool. Its mesmerizing electric-blue waters are created by sunlight filtering through an underwater opening.
